Professional Development and Networking

LCD presents numerous opportunities for individual attorneys and law students to explore professional development areas and grow their network of legal professionals. For example, each year, LCD presents a best practice event on topics such as tips for successful mentoring across differences and innovations in creating more diverse and inclusive legal teams. We also host events with corporate general counsel, judges in the state and federal judiciary and other leaders in the legal profession, with ample opportunities to network and learn about the pathways to those senior positions and to network.

College Pipeline

This impactful program is designed to provide law students of color the opportunity to develop one-on-one relationships with lawyers in LCD’s member organization network. Students from participating schools are paired with successful mentors from the local legal community, who graciously share their knowledge and experience. Matching mentor and mentee begins with a solid profile of all participants. Pairing may be based on development goals, interests or background. This program has been called “life-changing” by past participants. Mentoring partnerships are invaluable to moving careers forward, expanding viewpoints, and developing leadership skills. The program kicks off with a special dinner each October to help mentors/mentees get off to a good start and lay the foundation for a meaningful experience.
